America was the price of eggs worth it?

The so-called election loss was largely attributed to the rising cost of eggs—along with other consumer necessities—and the perception that Democrats were out of touch with the everyday struggles of American families. Well, here we are two months later, and the price of eggs is just one of many concerns. The stock market is volatile, consumer confidence is shaky, thousands have lost their jobs, thousands more to lose their jobs, fears of an impending recession loom large and now a major national security breach. So, I ask: was it worth it?
For me, the cost of eggs is more than just an economic issue—it’s a symbol of the “me and mine” mentality that has taken hold of our society. Instead of a sense of collective responsibility, we have embraced an “us vs. them” mindset, reducing the American experience to selfish individualism or outright objectification. We have, in many ways, become the very definition of the “ugly American.” The irony is all that is Black or African-American in a cultural or socio political environment is being demonized. The role of empathy is embedded in Ubuntu, a collective response to community understanding. We are all in this together, “I am because you are”.
Malcolm X once spoke of “chickens coming home to roost,” and in 2024, our fixation on egg prices during the election has allowed a harsher truth to settle in. Are the chickens coming home to roost? In just two months, we’ve seen civil rights virtually stripped away, crucial government agencies dismantled—by a non-American, no less—the rule of law and the U.S. The Constitution trampled in the pursuit of power and privilege, and the looming threat of Social Security being gutted under the guise of Making America Great Again. Instead of drinking the Kool-Aid, America bought rotten eggs.
So what are we going to do about, we are called to muster up courage and action in a way that keeps us from destroying not just America but humanity. We are called to mercy, courage, and action. Our future is more than a carton of eggs.
